   The US Almanac for September 20      
 In September 1973 191mm of rain fell at
 west Stourmouth (Kent), and 167 mm in  
 13 hours at Ashford. This was the      
 result of a depression moving northeast
 off southeast England. During the month
 as a whole 253mm of rain fell at       
 Manston.                               
   The World Almanac                    
 Hurricane Hugo churned toward the South
 Atlantic Coast, gradually regaining    
 strength along the way on this day in  
 1989. Tropical Storm Iris got too close
 to Hugo, and began to weaken. A cold   
 front brought strong and gusty winds to
 the Great Basin.
