The Manchester band, with their dark sound, was a huge influence on a generation of music fans. Tragedy struck in 1980 when singur Ian Curtis committed suicide. Joy Division still have a huge cult following — with much of the attention focusing on Curtis, but Sumner says the band was a collaborative effort.
