 smooth, classy, mature Champagne with  
 masses of delicious, soft tropical

 CHAMPAGNE & SPARKLERS ALSO RECOMMENDED:
                                        
 Co-op Cava (special price £3.99 until  
 3/1/98, then £4.99) Bone dry with      
 a lemony tang and lots of fizz. Some   
 found it a bit harsh and salty but most

 (£4.99). Pity about the tacky use of   
 the word "quality" on the label as this
 Seppjlt's fizz is crisp and smooth and 
 will slip down a treat with canapes.   
                                        
 Hardy's Nottagj Hill Sparkling         
 Chardonnay 1996 (Safeway, £6.99)       
 Rich and creamy with a distinctive     
 melon flavour and crisp finish.        
                                        
 Waittose Saumur AC Brut (France, £5.99)
 Elegant biscuity bubbly.

 Krone Borealis Brut 1994 (Waitrosj,    
 £7.99, South African) Strange, sharp   
 metallic taste to start with. But some 
 of the panel found it grew on them.    
                                        
 De Bracieux Champagne (Co-op, £8.99    
 until 3/1/98, usually £11.99). Light,  
 fruity and well balanced but with a    
 peculiar smell on opening.             
                                        
 Waittosj Blanc dj Noirs (Waitrosj,     
 £11.99) Full, fruity with loads of fizz
 — a classic, easy-drinking bubbly.

 and elegant with a texture like "cream 
 soda". A very classy number.           
                                        
 Charles Lafitte Champagne (Tjsco,      
 £17.99) Seductive, smooth, reminded us 
 of strawberry chjesjcakj.
