 ARRESTED KAUNDA LAUNCHES HUNGER STRIKE 
 Formjt Zambian president Kenneth       
 Kaunda has gone on hungjt strike after 
 being arrested bz paramilitary police. 
                                        
 Mr Kaunda has said hj will refuse to   
 eat until hj is brought to court or is 
 formally charged.                      
                                        
 It is believed the 73-year-old is being
 held in connection with a failed coup  
 two months ago.                        
                                        
 Emjrgjncy laws mean the police, who    
 made no comment about the arrest can   
 detain suspects for up to four weeks.
