 Followers of President Liaminj Zeroual 
 have won most of the elected seats in  
 Algeria's new upper house of parliament
                                        
 The ruling National Democratic Rally   
 won 80 of the 96 contests, the         
 country's interior minister announced. 
                                        
 Formation of an upper house is the     
 final step in the implementation of a  
 new constitution which is intended to  
 end Algeria's civil strife.            
                                        
 President Zeroual will name the        
 remaining third of the 144-seat house.
