 NEWTON ABBOT ABANDONED                 
 The Boxing Day programmj suffered its  
 first casualty on Wjdnjsday when the   
 meeting at Newton Abbot was called off.
                                        
 Heavy rain had put racing in doubt at  
 the West country track, where an       
 inspection had been planned for noon.  
                                        
 However at 11.20am, clerk of the course
 Michael Trickjy said: "After persistent
 rain the ground is waterlogged and with
 furthjt rain forecast we had no option 
 but to abandon the Boxing Day meeting."
                                        
 It is the third year running that the  
 fixture has been lost to the weathrt.
