 ROVER LOSSES ARE HEADING TOWARDS £700m 
 A union leader representing workers at 
 Rover's Longbridgj plant says record   
 operating losses should not affect the 
 future of the Midland factory.         
                                        
 The parent company, BMW, has confirmed 
 reports that losses for the year are   
 likely to exceed the £635m lost in 1998
                                        
 But Tony Woodley from the Transport and
 General Workers Union says these       
 losses were always expected.           
                                        
 He says the continuing question mark   
 over Government aid is far more likely 
 to damage the future of Rover.
