 MARCONI TO SHED 200 JOBS IN MERSEYSIDE 
 Marconi in Liverpool are cutting 200   
 jobs with the transfer of its high-tech
 planning and design team to Lancashire.
                                        
 The workforce is to be moved from the  
 company's plant at Edge Lane to a site 
 in Chorely, where payphones are made.  
                                        
 The company says it is having to       
 rationalise the division as the sector 
 has been badly affected by the growth  
 in popularity of mobile phones.        
                                        
 Glyn Thomas, regional officer for the  
 NSF Union, says managers could have    
 done more to keep the Merseyside jobs.
