 METRO DENIES KINGFISHER MERGER TALK    
 German stores chain Metro has denied a 
 report in the Financial Times that it  
 is in merger talks with Kingfisher, the
 UK's Woolworths-to-B&Q retail group.   
                                        
 The newspaper said sources had         
 confirmed discussions were taking place
 on a merger that would create a pan-   
 European group worth about £15.5bn.    
                                        
 A link-up between the two groups would 
 be the largest German-UK merger to date
                                        
 But Metro spokesman Martin Rassfeld    
 said: "There is nothing to it. You can 
 take that as a denial."
