Comments continue that provided steady movement is achieved,by April the strong demand for quality could drive prices upwards. Top bulk packing is steady,with Piper £60-£90,up to £115. Estima £50-£85. Edward £70-£95. Other grade 1 £50-£80 and grade 2 £35-£45. Poorest samples £10-£20. Bag trade is slow for all but frying Piper from £40 up to £80,most £50-£60. Growers in Kent and Pembrokeshire have started preparation work. Fresh storage problems are becoming rarer,although patches continue in crops which were lifted in wet or dirty conditions. Mainly these reports focus on Piper,although increasing reports refer to problems with Cara. Reports of skin blemishes are also increasing. Monitoring of stores remains a priority for all stock holders,particularly in Piper,for the remainder of this season. Sprouting in ambient stores is being checked by cooler temperatures this week.
