 ITALIAN PUBLIC TRANSPORT STRIKE ACTION 
 A series of strikes affecting local    
 trains, subways, buses and trams in    
 certain parts of Italy will take place 
 over the next few weeks.               
                                        
 An eight hour walkout started at 9     
 o'clock this morning (Friday) and is   
 affecting subway and train services in 
 Milan, as well as Calabria, Sardinia   
 and the Veneto.                        
                                        
 Another strike on 2 February will      
 affect buses and trams and will extend 
 to the city of Rome, said the union,   
 which represents engineers and         
 machinists.
