The full moon will disappear for over an hour as it passes in the shadow of the Earth. The moon goes round (orbits) the Earth and the Earth orbits the Sun. On some special occasions, when the Earth lies between the Sun and the Moon, the Moon is in the Earth's shadow. When this occurs during a full moon — we have a total lunar eclipse. But you'll probably be asleep anyway as the first shadow doesn't hit the moon until 2.06 in the morning! This shadow passes across the moon until it is completely obscured which happens about an hour later and this totality lasts for over an hour.
