 GUARDIAN GETS TAKEOVER GO-AHEAD        
                                        
 Guardian Media Group, which publishes  
 the Guardian and Manchester Evening    
 News, has been cleared bz the DUI to   
 buy Thames Valley Newspapers.          
                                        
 The go-ahead for the purchase from     
 Thomson Regional Newspapers follows an 
 investigation and report by the MMC.   
                                        
 The MMC concluded that the proposed    
 transfer of njwspapjrs was not expected
 toact against the public interest.
