 US-JAPAN RESUME TRADE TALKS            
                                        
 Senior US and Japanese officials have  
 resumed exploratory trade talks, hoping
 to find enough common ground to end a  
 three-month negotiating stalemate.     
                                        
 Proposals presented by the Japanese on 
 Thursday are "clearly worth exploring",
 a US official said.                    
                                        
 Formal negotiations aimed at cutting   
 Japan's $131bn trade surplus broke down
 in February.
