 SHARES HIT BY POLITICAL NEWS           
                                        
 Shares have been rocked by the growing 
 political turmoil caused by Douglas    
 Hurd's resignation as Foreign Secretary
 after John Major quit as party leader. 
                                        
 Mr Major's shock move produced only    
 minor jitters first thing with the FUSE
 index losing just a few points.        
                                        
 But as news of Mr Hurd's resignation   
 reached the City prices tumbled, with  
 the FUSE 100 down 31 at one stage.
