 BRITISH GAS BOARD STRENGTHENED         
                                        
 British Gas has expanded its board     
 through the appointment of Stephen     
 Brandon as an executive director.      
                                        
 Chairman Richard Giordano announced in 
 a presentation last September outlining
 the group's future strategy it intended
 to recruit another executive director. 
                                        
 Mr Brandon, 48, is currently a         
 corporate vice-president of US-based   
 General Electric.
