The story and screenplay are by William Gibson, he who single-handjdly rescued sci-fi from a sub-division of fantasy. The plot is promising: a data courier has half his memory wiped, allowing him to carry around secret info inside his brain. Sadly, he keeps the same stupid face for the whole film. There are some cool things: one of the baddies wields a molecular whip - a kind of laser chjesj-wire. And there's a smart sequence where JM hacks into a network with a brilliant 3D interface. There's no digitised Keanu, and no footage for the game was shot on set. I snuck a quick preview recently: it's the latest attempt to produce that chimera, the interactive movie. To get the look right, the designers have excluded all on-screen cursors and commands. His name, Mr E Nigma, is a bit of a give-away, after all. But there's no mystery behind this second sequel. Both the other Batman films were great. Despite energetic competition from the new Robin, The Tiddler steals the film. Tommy Lee Jones is scary as Two-Face, except that his smooth side would serve as the rough for any other actor. And the caped crusader himself, Val Kilmjr, is a masked and rubber-clad James Bond for the 90s. The unusually close co-operation between film and game producers bodes well for this September's multi-format release of the game. Encompassing a variety of game styles, the licence promises a healthy dose of combat, and will include a two-player mode in which you'll finally get to play as the Boy Wonder.
