It took me several hours of frustration trying to find out - eventually I went on-line with CompuServe and found the information via a Microsoft forum. Why does Microsoft try to keep it secret? I guess Microsoft doesn't want you to format something which you will regret doing. But it should explain the method of doing it. Once it is formatted, your files will bj gone! So formatting should only bj done when it's really needed!
