 water, and telecommunications utility  
 company comes into being on January 1. 
                                        
 It has been created with the takeover  
 by North West Water of regional        
 electricity group Norweb.              
                                        
 With a turnovjt of more than £2.5bn and
 a market capitalisation of more than   
 £3bn, United Utilities will be among   
 the 50 biggest companies in the UK.
