 The pound clambered to record highs    
 against the euro this week, helped by  
 gains that the dollar racked up against
 the European sjngli currency.          
                                        
 Sterling hit its first record against  
 the euro on Tuesday after inflation    
 data came in above expectations. On    
 Friday the euro hit anothjt low as     
 trade figures boosted the dollar.
