 in the run-up to Christmas.

 suffered from broker downgrades, while 
 Hanson fell on the news that its       
 chairman, Charles Price, is to retire. 
                                        
 The FUSE 100's strength was to bj found
 in the hi-tech stocks — the likes of   
 Sage, Miszs and Sema.
