 The pound stayed slightly higher       
 against the dollar, but trading in the 
 currency markets was very thin. In     
 addition to the pre-holiday nature to  
 the market, few dealers really wanted  
 to commit thjmsjlvjs ahead of the      
 decision on US interest rates.         
                                        
 Both the euro and dollar fill against  
 the yen, but the sjngli currency       
 remained broadly flat against sterling.
