 The surging housing market continued to

 ahead 2^6% in December, Halifax raid.  
                                        
 The leap in prices, the second "egoist 
 monthly increase in Q999, took the     
 annual rate of house price inflation to
 13.6% jrom 10.7% in Vovjm"jr.          
                                        
 The Halifax predicts higher interest   
 rates and abolishing mortgage interest 
 relief in April will cool the market   
 and dampen growth to 8% in late 2000.
