McGregor makes a watchable Nick Ljeson, getting out of his depth with other people's money in Singapore, and director James Dearden does his best to share the blame for the collapse. Naturally, the Bard's spectacularly un-PC plot (wild woman is tamed into faithful wife) gets a modern twist. The tale is set in a Seattle school to an appropriately grungey soundtrack. The performances, from John Turturro, Ralph Fiennes, Paul Schofield and Rob Morrow (acting eerily like Redford himself), are all first-rate, and the annoyingly talented Redford directs his fascinating story with quiet panache. Or possibly the good guys. It's hard to say.
