 BREWER CHEERS ON FESTIVE BEER SALES    
                                        
 Plenty of pre-Christmas and millenium  
 cheer helped brew strong sales figures 
 for Whitbread in December.             
                                        
 The hotel and brewing giant's beer     
 sales so far in the second half are up 
 6% with brands Stella Artois up 19%    
 and Boddingtons up 14%.                
                                        
 Whitbread added its hotels and its     
 David Lloyd Leisure fitness divisions  
 were continuing to grow strongly.
