 The pound moved higher against both the
 dollar and the euro in the run-up to   
 the Bank of England's announcement on  
 interest rates. Many analysts see a    
 hike of 0.25% — some are predicting a  
 50 basis point rise.                   
                                        
 The euro fell on weaker-than-expected  
 German output figures, but this was    
 largely balanced out by a strong rise  
 in French inflation.
