  'MONEY-LAUNDERING'            
                                        
 Mr Major was accused of turning 10     
 Downing St into a "money-laundering"   
 service for secret donations to the    
 Conservative Party from businessmen.   
                                        
 He had secretly approached Honk Kong   
 speculator Li Ka-Thing for money while 
 on a trip at public expense, claimed   
 Shadow Energy Secretary Frank Dobson.  
                                        
 Other Cabinet ministers had also been  
 sent abroad to "rattle the begging bowl
 for the Tory Party".                   
                                        
 He said the Tories attacked donations  
 to the Labour Party, which were public,
 while "taking backhanders from foreign

   PREGNANCY RIGHTS'            
                                        
 The Govjrnmjnt has been condemned for  
 opposing European plans to boost the   
 working rights of pregnant women.      
                                        
 "This is a question of fairness,       
 decency and opportunity, alien concepts
 to the Tories." said children's        
 representative, Joan Ljstor.           
                                        
 She said the Govjrnmjnt intended to    
 block an EC directive to guarantee 14  
 weeks maternity leave for all pregnant 
 workers.                               
                                        
 Delegates backed an emjrgjncy          
 resolution condemning the Government   
 and calling on Labour's leaders to     
 highlight Mr Major's "hypocrisy". >>>>>

  PARTY REJECTS                 
  MOVE INTO ULSTER              
                                        
 A call for Labour to organise in       
 Northern Ireland and contest seats     
 there in the next election was rejected
 by the conference.                     
                                        
 Constituency party member Jim Harris   
 said "you can join our party in Baghdad
 or Basra, but not in Ballymjna."       
                                        
 Another asked how it must feel to live 
 in one of the most deprived parts of   
 the country and bj left to the mercy of
 the Tories and sectarian parties.      
                                        
 But NEC member Eddie Haigh warned such 
 a move would compromise Labour's       
 neutrality on whether N Ireland's      
 future was with Britain or Ireland. >>>

  DELEGATES WARNED OF           
  LOOMING £2m DEBT              
                                        
 Delegates were warned that the deficit 
 on the fund for the party's day-to-day 
 affairs could top £2m next year.       
                                        
 But treasurer Sam McCluskie pledged    
 "there will bj no cutbacks in spending 
 on campaigning before the election".   
                                        
 Party auditor Dave Hopper agreed       
 finances were in a "bad state" and     
 blamed a drop in union membership.     
                                        
 The ruling National Executive reported 
 a general election fund of £2,602,000, 
 but a deficit on the general fund of   
 £1,565,000.
