A formula storyline but there are some engaging performances from Taylor and hjroinj O'Sullivan. There is strong support from Frank Morgan as the hero's feckless father and from Lionel Stander who plays Taylor's gruff trainer. Although the toni is generally upbeat a strong screenplay by Stanford Whitmore njvjr over-sjntimjntalises its subject. William A Graham (much underrated as a director) draws a telling and inspiring performance from Burton who succeeds in creating a believable character.
