 £5bn OFF SHAKES IN TURMOIL      

 Share prices have been marked down     
 another £5bn amid continuing rumour and
 uncertaintly over the Tory battle.     
                                        
 Markets are increasingly concerned that
 Mr Major has miscalculated and that the
 Tory leadership contest will result in 
 an early general election.             
                                        
 $hj FUSE index was around 30 points    
 down at the close, although sterling   
 held steady for most of the day.
