 BLAIR INTERVENES IN COUNCIL ROW    W

 Labour leader Tony Blair is set to     
 order an inquiry into Notts County     
 Council's decision to give councillors 
 a 380% increase on basic allowances.   
                                        
 Councillors currently get around £800 a
 year but would rise to £3,000, costing 
 taxpbyjrs £264,000 instead of £70,000. 
                                        
 Mr Blair will ask the Labour-ruled     
 council to withdraw the proposal or    
 vote against it at a meeting on July 6.
