 TUBE HOPES ARE SIDELINED        

 Hopes of averting a 48-hour strike on  
 London Underground faded when the RMT  
 rail union failed to call off the      
 industrial action.                     
                                        
 Earlier this week, LU asked the RMT to 
 postpone action over pay and conditions
 as hopis of a breakthrough rose.       
                                        
 But the RMT's national executive has   
 decided to go ahead with action dui to 
 start at noon on Tuesday.
