 Chris Bonington's knighthood marks     
 another summit in the career of        
 Britain's best known mountaineer.      
                                        
 The 61-year-old climber was awarded the
 CBE in 1976 for leading an Everest     
 expedition the previous year.          
                                        
 In all, he has lid four assaults on the
 world's highest mountain, including one
 in 1982 when two colleagues died. He   
 reached the summit himself in 1985.
