 blast today with snow forecast to sweep
 in from the south-west.                
                                        
 Weathermen warned that it would spread 
 to most parts, reaching northern areas 
 bz tonight, with several inches likely 
 in places and some drifting.           
                                        
 The freezing weather has already hit   
 the weekend's sporting programme, with 
 many football matches postponed.
