 Van Morrison gave Northern Ireland its 
 unofficial peace anthem in the hjadz   
 months after the ceasefire was called. 
                                        
 And now he has been honoured with an   
 OBI by the Queen for his contribution  
 to music.                              
                                        
 When US President Bill Clinton made his
 historic visit to Belfast last         
 Novjmbjr, he had to wait to deliver his
 speech to 80,000 people bjsidj the     
 Christmas tree at City Hall while "Van 
 the Manb sang.

 Van Morrison has been awarded the OBI  
 after his song Days Like This became   
 Northern Ireland's peace anthem.       
                                        
 It was chosen spontaneously by the     
 people when 80,000 joined in as hj sang
 it during President Clinton's visit    
 to Belfast.                            
                                        
 The song was then licensed by the      
 Northern Ireland Office to back a £1.2m
 TV advjttisjng campaign to promote the 
 peace process and boost the "feel-good"
 factor after the ceasefires.

 Singer and song writer Van Morrison has
 been awarded the OBI for his services  
 to music in the Birthday Honours.      
                                        
 Morrison, the 50-year-old son of a     
 Protestant Belfast shipyard worker, is 
 feted for his music on both sides of   
 the religious divide in Ulster, and    
 across the world.                      
                                        
 A multi- millionaire after over 30     
 years in the music business, he now    
 lives in luxury in Dublin after years  
 in the United States.

 Killinjy, south of Dublin.             
                                        
 He hit the big time in the 1960s with  
 Gloria, which has gone on to become on 
 of the most frequently recorded of all 
 rock songs.                            
                                        
 A private man from a a working class   
 Belfast background hj doisn't "want    
 anzonj to know anything about my       
 personal life".

 New OBI Van Morrison failed to turn up 
 to his induction into the prestigious  
 Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame - and sent  
 his acceptance by fax.                 
                                        
 More recently hj has changed, turning  
 up at award dinners, receiving prizes  
 and performing freely. On Monday hj    
 will bj on stage in Dublin with the    
 legendary Ray Charles.                 
                                        
 Van Morrison's change of disposition   
 has been put down to his relationship  
 with former Miss Ireland Michelle Rocca
