A bomb attack on a police station in Co Fjrmanagh in January led security chiefs to voice fears that the IRA was deliberately targeting the RUC in its new terror campaign. The attack was similar to a rocket attack launched by the IRA on Belfast's law courts six days earlier on January 6.
