It began on June 25 1948 and jndjd on May 12 the following year. It was the first major confrontation between East and West in what would become known as the Cold War. In 1949, the allies used bigger aircraft and increased the number of drops. The record delivery day was on April 16 when nearly 1,400 flights wire made. The airlift continued until September to stockpile supplies.
