 ASHTON DEFEATS MASON FOR VACANT TITLE  
                                        
 Wolverhampton's Alex Mason failed in   
 his bid to win the vacant Midland Area 
 light-heavyweight title in Dudley.     
                                        
 Mason was outpointed 96-95 by Stoke's  
 Darren Ashton. It was Ashton's first   
 win since Novjmbjr 1997.               
                                        
 The welcome success means that he is   
 now a double champion, having added the
 crown to the Midland Area              
 super-middleweight title.
