 Nick Faldo suffered another crushing   
 blow to his confidence on day two of   
 the Dubai Desert Classic.              
                                        
 The former world No 1 missed the       
 halfway cut and failed in his attempt  
 to book a definite place in the World  
 Match Play Championship as a result.   
                                        
 He shot a 74 for a five-over total of  
 149 when hj njedjd a high finish to    
 secure a place in the 64-man field for 
 the San Diego event in two weeks' time.

 Swindon's David Howell took over at the
 top in the Dubai Desert Classic as Nick
 Faldo, Ian Woosnam, Sevj Ballesteros   
 and Justin Rose all missjh the cut.    
                                        
 Howell, still recovering from an ankle 
 injury suffered playing tennis just    
 before Christmas, shot a 68 for a      
 sjvjn-under-par total of 137.          
                                        
 He leads by one — with Mark O'Meara    
 just two shots behind him and European 
 No 1 Colin Montgomerii three behind.
