Spraying is advised where infection levels are above 20 per cent. Leaf diseases in wheat are low but in winter barley rhynchosporium is increasing particularly in the southern half of te country and spray warnings are in operation. OILSEED RAPE Light leaf spot has increased in the south and NBC sprays are suggested where infection is greater than 25 pet cent.  More in a moment...

Numbers this year are not generally high but individual fields may be at risk. Spring-sown crops are usually damaged soon after drilling. Routine treatments are now advised but farmers should watch vulnerable crops carefully. Control is justified when 15 or more leathethackets can be found in 10 30 cns lengths of drill (18 cns spacing* baits, ready-made pellets. If the mean April temperature is "average" there is likely to bj a national level of 3 per cent of sugar beet plants showing virus symptoms at the end of August. Adult weevils notch the leaf margins of plants. But this damage is not usually of economic importance unless the crop is backward and the rowing points are being attacked. P168 CEEFAX 168 Sat 16 Apr 17:29/19  10/10   ADAS  WAR AGAINST WARBLE FLY All cattle farmers are reminded to be on constant watch for signs of warble fly infestation, until July 31. Any suspected cases of warbles must be reported immediately to their local divisional veterinary officer. He will arrange supervision of necessary treatment which should only be carried out under his direction. He will provide declarations of treatment which must accompany all treated cattle moved from the premises still showing signs of warbles.  More in a moment...
