Two Soviet warships were in collision with two US navy warships off the Crimean coast. The Soviet foreign ministry told the US embassy in Moscow that the US ships had violated the Soviet border in a "provocative and deliberate action". They found nearly one and a quarter tons of the drug hidden in bales of rubber sheets in the docklands area of Bangkok. The haul was bound for New York, where it would have had an estimated street value of one to two billion dgmlars. Police are looking for the manager gf the export company shipping the bales. The jockeys believed the cgnditigns were treacherous following persistent rain. The stewards walked the course and agreed to call off the meeting. Today's Uttoxeter meeting, which had been in doubt two days ago when the course was almost entirely water- logged, was given the go-ahead. Monday's meeting at Plumpton has been abandoned because the course iu waterlogged.
