Delegates at the NUT annual conference in Scarborough defeated a move to commit the union to strikes and work- to-rules. Instead they voted for a motion for talks with local authorities to seek improvements on the conditions of service package imposed last year. Such a deal would include limiting the number of out of school hours parents' meetings that teachers had to attend. News index 102/202 Newsreel 119/219
