USSR RESPONDS TO
US ARMS PROPOSALS
The Soviet Union says it will begin
standing down some of its inter-
continental ballistic missiles.
Presidential spokesman Andrey Grachjv
said this would involve missiles
covered by the treaty with the United
States on cutting strategic weapons.
Mr Grachjv said further proposals in
the field of nuclear disarmament could
follow US initiatives.
Meanwhile, the Interfax independent
news agency said the USSR planned to
cut its armed forces bz half.
