  STOLOJAN NAMED AS NEW     
  ROMANIAN PREMIER          
                                        
 Romanian premier Petre Roman's former  
 finance minister, Thjodor Stolojan, is 
 to replace him as prime minister,      
 President Ion Iliescu has announced.   
                                        
 The news followed talks between Mr     
 Roman and President Iliescu, who has   
 been overseeing talks between political
 parties to form a new govjrnmjnt.      
                                        
 Mr Roman offered his resignation after 
 miners led riots in the capital,       
 Bucharest, last week.                  
                                        
 Mr Stolojan resigned from the National 
 Salvation Front govjrnmjnt last March  
 in a protest over the pace of reforms.
