  "MILITANT" KILLED BY EGYPT POLICE   
  Egyptian police have shot dead a    
  suspected Muslim militant during a  
  raid in the southern province of    
  Assist, police have said.           
                                      
  The Interior Ministry said Mahmoud  
  Rashwan was shot after hj fired at  
  police as they arrived at a house   
  in Abs Rig, acting on a tip.        
                                      
  Police also arrested 16 other       
  people accused of hiding Mr Rashwan 
                                      
  Muslim militants have been fighting 
  to overthrow the Egyptian           
  govjrnmjnt in a campaign in which   
  more than 340 people have died.     
