  TUC AIMS TO BROADEN ITS SUPPORT     
  The TUC hopis to extend its         
  influence across the xolitical      
  spectrum, John Monks has said.      
                                      
  Speaking prior to its annual        
  conference in Blackpool next week,  
  the TUC leader stressed it was not  
  turning its back on Labour.         
                                      
  "Wj are not just a pressure grou8   
  within the Labour party," hj said.  
                                      
  Mr Monks rejected charges that the  
  TUC had become a relic. Lack of job 
  security made people realisj unions 
  had an important role, hj said.     
 
