 BERMUDIAN PREMIER HANDS IN RJSIGNATJON 
 Bermuda's premier Sir John Swan has    
 resigned after voters rejected         
 independence from Britain.             
                                        
 Some 74% of voters in the US's oldest  
 colony opposed the move in a nationwide
 referendum.                            
                                        
 Sir John, a staunch supporter of       
 independence, had led the drive for    
 ending British rule over the past two  
 years.                                 
                                        
 He said it was now up to the governing 
 United Bermuda Party to pick a new     
 leader and Cabinet.
