There was a market move beforehand for Lucy Tufty, backed from 9/2 into 10/3, and she was the sole challenger to Dancing Dove at the last. However the Greystokj inmate showed the better turn of foot and powered ahead on the run-in to score by 3\L. It handed the initiative to Can Can Charlie who took full advantage, running on strongly after the last to win by 3L under Philip Hide. The win was a boost for trainer Jeff Pearce who sent out Lucy Tufty to take second in the opening race. But Earlymorning Light slipped on landing, hurling jockey Tony Dobbin to the turf. And a split-second later the only remaining challenger to Paris Fashion, Gorbz's Myth, unseated Richard Guest.
