 FIVE PER CENT CUT IN UNIVERSITY FUNDING
 English universities will see a 5% cut 
 in funding for the next academic year, 
 the body allocating the grants has said
                                        
 The sum of £3.3 billion, to bj shared  
 among the universities, includes a     
 reduction of over 30% in the funds for 
 maintaining buildings and equipment.   
                                        
 But the Higher Education Funding       
 Council for England said no institution
 would face unmanageable cuts.          
                                        
 University Vice-Chancellors have warned
 that they may charge new students £300 
 each to help pay for their tuition.
