 MOBIL-BP LINK-UP THREATENS 3,000 JOBS  
 Up to 3,000 jobs are set to go after BP
 and Mobil announced a £3.3bn link-up in
 the European oil industry.             
                                        
 The two companies will combine their   
 refining and retail service station    
 businesses in Europe, hoping to save as
 much as £320 million a year.           
                                        
 Mobil's name will disappear from the   
 forecourts, and BP will operate a      
 combined total of 8,900 stations.      
                                        
 BP said jobs would go ovjt three years,
 but it was not immediately known how   
 many British workers would bj axed.
