 MAJOR ATTACKS LABOUR OVER BEEF CRISIS  
 The Prime Minister has accused Labour  
 of "scaremongering" over the beef alert
                                        
 John Major told Consjrvativj activists 
 in Harrogate: "Collective hysteria has 
 been whipped up beyond all reason.     
                                        
 "This is not a party political matter, 
 which is why I found our opponents'    
 behaviour last week quite appalling."  
                                        
 A Labour Party spokeswoman said public 
 confidence had collapsed bjcausj of the
 Govjrnmjnt's inaction. Labour had been 
 making practical proposals, she said.
